The History of Chiropractic Care

Vintage anatomical sketches of human muscular and skeletal systems.

The term "Chiropractic" is derived from the Greek words “cheir” (hand) and “praktos” (done), meaning “done by hand.” This name was selected by the pioneer of chiropractic care, Daniel David Palmer.

In 1895, D.D. Palmer conducted a chiropractic adjustment on Harvey Lillard, a partially deaf janitor, who later claimed that his hearing had improved as a result of the treatment.

Two years later, D.D. Palmer established the first chiropractic school, laying the groundwork for what would become an extensive field. Over the past century, professionals trained in chiropractic techniques have highlighted the benefits of chiropractic care, utilizing spinal adjustments to aid individuals in preventing and managing a variety of conditions, including back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, muscle strains, headaches, and migraines. Today, millions continue to benefit from the foundational work of Dr. Palmer and the rich history of chiropractic.

Chiropractic doctors undergo a minimum of four years of chiropractic training at a dedicated college, typically following an undergraduate degree in the basic sciences or relevant experience in a previous health care role. This extensive education is rooted in the history of chiropractic care, emphasizing the benefits of chiropractic methods for healing and wellness.

Students of chiropractic care must complete at least 4,200 hours with their instructors, including a minimum of 1,000 hours of fully supervised clinical training. During this time, they learn essential diagnosis and treatment techniques aimed at healing the body and restoring its natural, fully functioning state.

I am ready to meet with you to discuss your needs and help design a chiropractic program that is right for you.
